Incorporate literacy into your social studies time with this reading comprehension activity pack focussing on the geography (both physical and human) of California.
Students read an informative text about the geography of California covering its location, cities, people, physical features and industries. They then take part in a vocabulary hunt to determine the meaning of key words, before answering reading comprehension questions about the text.
An extension is included for students to draw inferences and conclusions about their reading and write a short response.
The activity includes teacher instructions and lesson extension ideas and a full answer key.
This reading activity provide a perfect addition to a unit of study around California or United States geography. Alternatively it could be used as part of an ongoing series of reading comprehensions covering different states/countries, with students learning about a different state/country every week.
Other state/country focused reading activities can be found here.
