This packet for grades 3-5 is a cross-curricular lesson that combines the study of natural resources with language arts, public speaking, geography, science and social studies. In this lesson, students will select a product, research it to identify the natural resources used to create the product and then locate the natural resources on a map. Also, students will create map symbols and their own resource map as well as help to create a larger classroom resource map. The information from their research is used as the basis for a short presentation to their classmates. Students will also create a classroom pop-up book using their research.
This packet contains the lesson plan, handouts, rubrics and directions for creating a pop-up book. A resource list of additional websites and books is included if further information or study of natural resources is needed.
