Product Description
This multi-media activity uses tourism promotional ads to look at the physical and human landscape, and recreational and cultural activities of a region.

I used this to lead into a project on ecozones in which students were to create a tourist promotion for a region of the country.

Students watch 4 tourism commercials (for India, Holland, Banff, and New Zealand), and pull out information on elements of the physical landscape, the human landscape, recreational activities, and cultural activities that are highlighted in the videos.

This file includes the student handout - a chart to be filled in and a written component - as well as links to 2 websites with access to the videos.

I have the students attempt the first video (Holland) and then discuss as a class, to make sure everyone is on the right track. Then, in pairs, the class completes the chart for the remaining 3 videos and completes the short writing task in part 2.

For clarity:
physical landscape = land forms, water bodies, flora and fauna
human landscape = man-made structures
recreational activities = things people do for 'fun' (fishing, shopping, golf)
cultural activities = those things that are linked to culture in general or to a specific culture (museums, pow wows, feasts, theatre)
