These activities do not use negative Geometric(Algebra) tiles.

Included in this zip folder are 7 Power Point files. 3 are for instruction and 4 are assignments. One assignment is on the Socrative platform at www.socrative.com

Power Point Instruction file #1 is a 43 slide presentation that introduces the learner to geometric polynomials. The basic shapes of the tiles are discussed and how to write a collection of them as a polynomial.

Power Point Instruction file #2 is a 21 slide presentation. Completing the square is presented using the tiles. Instruction is given over a missing constant term, "c" and a missing linear coefficient, "b".

Power Point Instruction file #3 is a template to cut out Geometric (Algebra) tiles. There is 1 page of x^2's, 1 page of x's and 1 page of 1's. They are aligned for easy cutting.

Power Point Assignment file #1 is a 15 question multiple choice assignment where the student must recognize the lengths of sides, area as a sum of like pieces, and the area as the product of 2 sides for geometric polynomials. The Socrative share number is included. It is on 1 page for easy printing.

Power Point Assignment file #2 is a 10 question written assignment. The student is given a geometric polynomial and must write the sum of its like pieces as a polynomial and the product of its sides as factors. There 2 problems that can’t be written as a product of its sides(won’t factor). It is on 1 page for easy printing.

Power Point Assignment file #3 is a 24 question written assignment where the student must “complete the square” in order to make a square geometric polynomial. There are 9 questions that are geometric and 15 questions are algebraic. Sometimes the student must identify the missing constant term and sometimes the missing term is linear. When the problems are algebraic the missing linear term is sometimes negative. It is on 1 page for easy printing.

Power Point Assignment file number 4 is 10 pages in length. Each page is a trinomial and its corresponding Geometric (Algebra) tile representation. The student is asked to write the polynomial expression.Also, the student is asked to cut out the tiles and arrange them into a rectangle.
