Students learn to identify the geometric properties of solids, (surfaces, faces, edges, and vertices), by making their very own, personalized geometry booklet. Each booklet has dotted-line drawings of ten different geometric solids for children to practice with, identify, and trace. Fill-in lists below each diagram provides a place to record the number of surfaces, faces, edges and vertices for every solid.
The booklet also includes is a simply worded, concise list of definitions for each term, as well as a page for them to illustrate those definitions by coloring them on a diagram.
This activity is also great for lower elementary Montessori children who are interested in geometry and are ready to move beyond the solids identification from primary CASA. The solids chosen are those in the Montessori geometric solid set.
An answer key is provided for the teacher. This is not colored, however it provides the numerical and written answers for each page in the student booklet.
Instructions are provided for printing the booklet double sided, but if you prefer a simpler way, it's fine to just print them single-sided and cut along the thin, grey lines.
Lastly, feel free to use the included page of blank templates to let your creative artists run wild, or customize as much as you like. Perhaps your children would like to draw their own solids? Maybe you wanted to add in a picture of a dodecahedron. Whatever you need.
Solids in the booklet include:
