Geometric Sequences

Description
In this study of geometric sequences, students will learn how to recognize this type of pattern, write the formulas in explicit and recursive forms, find a certain term, and show the information using multiple representations. There are 6 practice pages and then a quiz.
Each practice contains the following:
•Practice 1: Notes at the top giving the definition of a geometric sequence, what a common difference is and how terms work. The practice part involves detecting geometric sequences, writing the first 5 terms and filling in a table and graphing the data.
•Practice 2: Notes at the top with a sample pattern. This practice page is helping students learn how to write the explicit formula and how to find a certain term.
•Practice 3: This practice page gives the students two real-life examples of geometric sequences and has them fill in a table, write equations and find a certain term.
•Practice 4: Students are taught that these equations can be written in subscript form or function notation form and then they practice multiple representations.
•Practice 5: This practice page helps students learn how to write the equation in recursive form.
•Practice 6: This is a mixed practice where students decide if a sequence is arithmetic, geometric or neither. It also asks students to write explicit and recursive formulas for geometric sequences and to find a specific term, then there is a test-like question where a recursive formula is given and the student must write the first 3 terms.
•Quiz – 10 question: multiple choice and fill in the blank.
It is recommended to do each of the pages in this order. The teacher should go through the guided notes with the class and work one problem from each page to get the students started.
