Students translate, rotate, reflect and dilate geometric figures on the coordinate plane in this collaborative activity that doubles as classroom decor. Once a pennant is complete, it can be hung along a string in your classroom to show the world that, "Hey, we know how to transform figures!"
*This pennant has students transforming in all 4 quadrants. If you need a pennant that has students transforming only in quadrant 1: Geometric Transformations pennant - quadrant 1 only
On each pennant is a grid for students to draw their transformation. There are also blank coordinate pairs for students to record original coordinates and transformed coordinates. This gives students practice finding coordinates and using transformation rules, if they choose to complete the activity this way.
Included are 24 pennants that each ask students to transform a 2-dimensional figure. Also included is a full answer key showing what each pennant will look like when completed correctly. Each group of students can be given a set of pennants, scissors and either glue, tape or a stapler. Students can be in charge of cutting out the pennants. Groups can compete to see which group can complete the most pennants or your entire class can add pennants to one string as they complete each one. You may also choose to have your students color their pennants to add to your classroom decor.
