1st Grade Math Geometry - Flip and Go Cards

30 math task cards that reinforce 1st grade common core math standards - Reason with shapes and their attributes

Do you want a quick and easy way for students to practice geometry? I know that every minute of the instructional day is precious. There is never enough time to do it all. I designed Flip and Go Math Cards to maximize instructional time and efficiently reinforce math skills throughout all parts of the school day. They are easy to assemble. Simply print, cut and go! Oh, and don’t forget to put a ring on it!

Students will be exposed to several question types (Ex. Multiple Choice, True or False, Multiple Response, Fill in the Blank, etc). The questions have short answer responses, but they require critical thinking and math reasoning skills. Flip and Go Math Cards are a fun alternative for students to practice math standards and strengthen mathematical concepts. Most importantly they can be easily integrated into your daily routine.

Math Skills Addressed in this Resource:

* Identify the attributes of different shapes
* Understand “the whole” is composed of two halves or 4 fourths
* Understand that different shapes (circles and rectangles) can be divided into equal pieces
* Identify different two-dimensional shapes such as rectangles, squares, and trapezoids
* Understand that bigger shapes are composed of smaller shapes

Common Core Standards and Standards for Mathematical Practice Addressed in this Resource

CCSS.1.G.1
Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.

CCSS.1.G.2
Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from composite shape.

CCSS.1.G.3
Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.

SMP1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
SMP6 Attend to precision.
