This Geometry package can be used in two ways:
-as a culminating activity for a basic geometry unit on terms and shape recognition for elementary grades.
-or as a review of term and shape recognition before embarking on more advanced Geometry for middle school students.
Both PowerPoint presentations show real world images and objects for students to analyze, and then identify and classify them in Geometric terms.
This package contains student worksheets, answer keys, a Geometry dictionary of terms and two separate PowerPoint presentations that go along with each set of worksheets. There are also extension activity suggestions. The student worksheets ask for some simple responses but also require that the students explain their thinking (justify their answers). There are higher-level thinking questions in each section. The first PowerPoint is a simple recognition of 3-D solids in everyday common objects. The second PowerPoint is a collection of city and land skylines. Students are asked specific geometric questions regarding the details in the photo. There is even a fun Geography component to this slideshow where students must guess where in the world this photo comes from.
The geometric terms addressed are:
-basic 2-D shapes (including different kinds of triangles and regular polygons)
-basic 3-D solids (including different kinds of pyramids and prisms)
-line geometry (different kinds of lines and their relationship to each other) Topics and terms include lines, rays, segments, parallel, perpendicular and intersecting,
This project aligns well to Common Core standards in Geometry.
