Exploring Lines, Shapes, Area, and Perimeter
Geometry GOLD RUSH
The date is January 24, 1848.
The location is Sutter’s Mill, on the American River, Sacramento Valley.
Early that morning, a California settler named James Marshall was building a sawmill along the American River, when something shiny caught his eye. It was a golden nugget about the size of a pea.
News spread like wildfire and the California Gold Rush was on.
****The Task is to Create an Accurate Gold Mining Map.****
This activity will reinforce what they have learned about lines, shapes, area and perimeter while creating a GOLD RUSH Map. This looks great on bulletin boards!
