This Activity will help your students with one of the hardest topics to teach in Geometry.... Constructions. Use this Card Sort as a Thinking Map where they need to use deductive reasoning to answer the steps correctly.
It is very user-friendly, comes with the mats, cards, and answer keys.
I used this in my Honors / Regular high school geometry classroom and with my ELL students with great success!
The FOUR topics covered are:
Constructing Angle Bisectors
Constructing an Equilateral Triangle
Contructing a Perpendicular Bisector
Constructing the Circumcenter of a Triangle
Why are Sorting activities and Thinking Maps Important?:
Students get to use visual patterns to work collaboratively as a group (or individual) for deeper comprehension.
Can be used as an Informal Assessment, where the teacher can "see" the students' learning (great tool to use on evaluation days!)
They are graphic organizers which give students a way of recalling stored information by using patterns to integrate new information.
Ways to use this activity / game:
As a thinking map: In groups of 2-4, have them sort through the cards and logically place them onto the mat.
As a memory game: Create duplicates and they can place all cards down and play memory, which is a great way to teach them to find similarities and differences amongst the geometric steps.
Get creative! There are lots of other ways to use these! Even as flash cards!
Great ELL activity:
As an ELL / Esol Student myself, I loved these type of activities because I would first look at the graphics and use deductive reasoning to decipher which most logically would come first.
I also am creating this product in Spanish…..message me if you would like the Spanish Version instead!!
