Grab your apron because it's time to become an artist! Students become artists in this real-world activity and get to draw, identify, and categorize geometric shapes. When they complete all 10 geometry challenges, they win and get a certificate saying they are now certified artists!
If you're looking for ways to make more meaningful connections to math in the real world, this is the activity for you! Students will embark upon a day as an artist while practicing this difficult math concept at the same time. Geometry can be difficult for third graders and this activity is great practice!
⭐ What is This? ⭐
Help your students become artists in your classroom! Students complete 10 geometry challenges that are real-world related.
Print out all 10 color posters and all 10 aligned challenges. Distribute them around your room. Give each child a recording sheet. Explain to students that they will become artists and will need to complete all challenges. They have to find all the challenges you've left around the classroom and find the answers to each one. They use the recording sheet to mark off each challenge as they go.
Since it's artist day, I like to have my class paint on the recording sheet after they complete each math page. I explain how to do this in the preview and in the product! You can also use other things like crayons, markers, or other fun art stuff to fill in the recording sheet!
There is also an additional writing activity where students scan the QR codes on each poster and find out fun facts about artists.
This math activity is perfect for third graders. It aligns with 3.G.1.
