Teachers: Math is FUN! One of the best ways to learn math is with hands on,fun inquiry that engages the kids in the concepts involved. This CCSS aligned ,week long, differentiated geometry lesson delves into the properties of circles and spheres, teaches how to calculate the area of a circle and the volume of a sphere. The formulae are clearly presented with colorful posters, practice problems and many opportunities through crafts, activities and realia to grasp the concepts and practice the skills. The academic language is used in all of the teaching materials along with specially created vocabulary cards.
The lesson has been used with my 5th and 6th grade students in the past but can easily be adapted for 3rd through 5th grades.
