Are you looking for a more interesting way to teach the Law of Syllogism? I used this activity in my class last year and the students loved it.
First we discussed the "Direct TV" commercials that use a lot of "If - then" statements. If you haven't seen them before they can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v-JuG6YMqI
(**Disclaimer - Please preview YouTube clips before sharing with your class...NOT ALL CLIPS ARE APPROPRIATE...especially for younger students.)
The logic goes something like this "If you don't have direct TV you get angry...if you get angry then you throw things...if you throw things...you make people mad...etc."
It helps the students make sense out of If A = B and B = C then A = C . They loved watching some of the commercials in class and wanted to create their own version. This assignment outlines the rules for creating the video.
If you want to search"Law of Syllogism" videos on YouTube you will find similar assignments. It is a great extra-credit opportunity for kids.
If you are pleased with this activity I would appreciate any feedback you would be willing to leave. Thanks and happy teaching!
