Product Description
Math-integrated art activity ideas. Students use and interpret geometry vocabulary, apply their knowledge of geometric and other math terms, use measuring skills, consider symmetry and three-dimensions, and work on estimating skills, all in the context of creating art.

These are not comprehensive, step-by-step lessons; they are simple directions for math-integrated art activites that teachers can elaborate on with extensions and variations according to their students’ needs. Some suggestions are given for adapting these activities for different grade levels or adding problem-solving components.

Two art reflection worksheets are included in this resource:
Thinking About My Art
Symmetry in My Art
Also included is a description of the National Core Visual Arts Anchor Standards and a graphic overview showing ways Art education supports other areas of the curriculum.

Many of the activities in this collection are available as complete art lessons, bundled with other lessons and/or individually, as noted below:

I am a retired elementary classroom teacher, a former art teacher, an artist and a writer. I have a Multiple Subjects credential, a Single Subject credential for Art and English, LDS/ESL certification, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Mathematics focus, and Montessori certification. I have worked with all elementary grades, and with special groups including ELL, GATE, and At-Risk students. Creating Art With Kids and Share2Learn lessons and resources are designed to foster student creativity, choice, and independence, and to encourage authentic art-making. Consideration is given to developmental appropriateness, differentiation possibilities, and teacher individuality. For this reason, directions are general, expectations are open-ended, and clip art on student pages is kept to a minimum.

Visit my blog, Creating Art With Kids, for detailed descriptions and helpful tips about the teaching process for many of my art lessons.
