~Partitioning Shapes Practice Pages (8)- Shapes include rectangles, triangles, squares, trapezoids, hexagons, and circles. Students divide various shapes into halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, and eighths in different ways. Then students shade one part of each shape and write the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole. Teacher keys included.
~The Big Idea Question (1)- “Does the way you divide a shape into equal parts change the area of the equal parts? Explain how you know.”
~Pattern Block Partitioning Pages (2)- Students choose a pattern block to trace twice, divide 2 different ways and then shade one part of each to show a unit fraction. Students will then write the area of the shaded part as a unit fraction.
~Build Your Own (1)- Students use a ruler to create their own shape to partition 2 different ways.
