Geometry project where students act as architects to create a replica of a common roofing structure. Students build a 2D replica of a common roofing structure of their choice using wax sticks and toothpicks. Then, they identify the various polygons within the roofing structure; polygon, quadrilateral, parallelogram, rhombus, trapezoid, rectangle, square, etc...
Included: Sheet with common roofing structure diagrams and names, student project description/hook slides, rubric, student checklist, and project chart for tracking 2D figures for project.
Materials needed: Wax sticks and toothpicks for constructing.
*Alternative Activity: Can be done with markers and paper only so that there are no material costs.
