Product Description
It's a great day to discuss and share Surface Area of Prisms and Cylinders!

* Students begin the lesson by defining prisms

* Students learn how to make clear identifications of the bases of prisms.

* Students learn the name of faces on a prism that are not bases.

* Students learn the name of the segments that connect the vertices of a prism.

* Students learn how to identify the altitude of a prism.

* Students learn the angle that each lateral edge is to both bases of a right prism.

* Students learn the difference between a right prism and a prism that is not considered to be right, and they learn the name for the oblique lateral edge of a prism..

* Students learn how prisms are classified.

* Students learn to calculate lateral area of polyhedrons

* They learn the formula that is used to calculate total surface area of a right prism, and they understand for what each component of the formula stands.

* Students learn the term used when a right prism is laid out flat as a two-dimensional figure, and the value of doing so.

* Students define Cylinder

* Students learn to identify the altitude of a right cylinder

* Students learn the difference between a cylinder and a right cylinder.

* Students identify the "lateral area" of a cylinder

* Students review the formula for circumference, the area of a circle, and for total surface area of a cylinder.

* Students apply the newly learned information to calculating lateral area in a real-life situation involving cylinder phonographs used in the late 1800s.

* This lesson is aligned with CCSS

* I have included a 3 question follow-up assessment to assist students and instructors in determining the level of student understanding of the lesson

* I have also included GUIDED NOTES to encourage students' active participation in comprehending the lesson and for use in future preparation for quizzes, test, and final exams.

* I feel confident that students will find this material manageable and easily understood, while instructors should find the material practical as well as adaptable to current curriculum.. .
