Are your kids struggling to write proofs? It seems as though there is never enough proof practice in the textbooks and as a result I have created a series of my own proof assignments.
This proof assignment addresses basic angle relationships that exist when two parallel lines are cut by a transversal. Students will need to be able to identify Alternate Interior, Alternate Exterior, Corresponding, and Same Side (Consecutive) Interior Angles.
Part 1 contains 10 VERY SIMPLE 2-step proofs that basically just requires students to list a given followed by the type of angle. These are meant to be repetative and easy in order to introduce proofs to students. If you are shopping for difficult proofs this assignment is not for you.
Part 2 gets slightly more difficult because students are required to convert statements from "congruent" to "equal" in order to write the proofs. Towards the end the problems get more challenging by requiring them to use knowlege of linear pairs and possibly vertical angles in order to complete the proofs.
This packet contains 16 proofs in total.
As with most proof assignments, there might be more than one way to complete the problem. My answer key includes just 1 of the ways that could work. The number of boxes on the proofs are there to serve as a general guideline for the students. Depending on how detailed you get on your proof assignments, you might have to add boxes or leave some blank.
