*Purpose: learning to classify shapes by their side and angle attributes*
This is a set of three geometry sort activities -- cards that are to be used with the included Classification Tree graphic organizers. Can be played in many ways. Suggested: Students select 1 shape and start at the bottom of the graphic organizer to see 'how far' up the chart the shape can go. They have to stop at each "name" and describe if/why the shape fits that name. At the end, the student/group describes the shape using all the names starting with the most general name to the most specific name.
Quadrilaterals (3rd grade - 4th grade)
Triangles (3rd grade -- angles, 4th grade -- sides)
Solids (4th grade - 5th grade)
They can be made into a manila folder center, or (if you reproduce the graphic organizer on chart paper or project it on a smart board--an image of this example is included) the cards can be passed out and used as a small group or class wide lesson/activity.
The included images come in both color and black & white.
