Challenge students to analyze and communicate their thoughts in Geometry. These 50 critical-thinking questions are designed to be used in several ways: as a math center, as a Problem of the Day/Week, or as a whole-group activity, all of which create wonderful opportunities for mathematical discussions.
All 50 questions are formatted in two ways: in black and white for copying and in beautiful color for a center. Three beautiful posters are included for a whole-class activity.
These questions can serve as pre- or post-assessments, homework, or classwork. They are excellent samples to share at parent conferences or to be placed in a student portfolio.
Train students to use both words and pictures when making their explanations. They need to write the term “always true”, “sometimes true”, or “never true”, then go into their explanation. Encourage them to tell why they make a decision. This will support critical-thinking and writing in other subject areas. This practice will also support working with constructed responses on assessments.
