This is a task on the concept of the area of a regular polygon.
This is a 4 page team task. In this task students will take turns as "Team Mathematician". Students will find color-code the central angle, apothem and radius in the given regular polygon. The students will find the measure of the central angle, the length of the radius, the length of the apothem, the perimeter of the figure and then find the area of the figure.
This is a rigorous task. The students are only given one measurement: the radius, the apothem or a side length. They need to use either trigonometry or the Pythagorean Theorem to find the other necessary information to complete each problem.
* This task will have your classroom rich in mathematical discourse.
** My team task are created to be work in groups of 4. Each student is a team member: Team Member (A), Team Member (B), Team Member (C), Team Member (D). Each team member is required to participate regularly through the task as Team Mathematician. My cooperative learning team task require the student to be actively involved through out the entire task. Team Mathematician alternates throughout the task. My team tasks are designed to elicit mathematical discourse within the teams.
