This unit includes lots of practice identifying geometric shapes and their attributes, through reading, art, note-taking,sorting, and worksheet practice.
This unit includes:
~ "My Little Book of Geometry: Introduce the unit by using this guided note-taking booklet to review polygons, quadrilaterals, line segments, vertices, and sides. Last page includes a mini-assessment. Teacher Key is included
~4 Colorful vocabulary word cards/posters: rectangle, square, parallelogram and rhombus.
~Classification/Attribute Polygon Chart: This chart shows ways to sort and describe polygons. It also shows how polygons may share attributes. Teacher and student chart is included. Student chart is in the form of a guided note-taker. Student may use this chart to complete all the worksheets below.
~Describing Geometric Shapes: Students use the classification/attribute chart to describe four geometric shapes. This activity includes four "fun" shape names: "Silly Sally Square," "Ricky Rectangle," "Robot Rhombus," "Precious Parallelogram." Students describe all four shapes and also color each shape. These are great to put into math notebooks! Teacher Key is Included
~Representational Worksheets: Students create or represent squares, rectangles, parallelograms, rhombi, and trapezoids and also write to explain how they know. Teacher Key is Included.
~Describe Me: Students sort geometric figures and identify squares, rectangles, rhombi, quadrilaterals and parallelograms as polygons based on their attributes.
~Quadrilateral Sort: Students use a tree map to sort quadrilaterals according to the number of parallel sides.
