This is a fun, engaging project that you can do at the end of a Geometry Unit. There are three different versions of the project for your High (Three Stars), Medium (Two Stars), and Low students (One Star). This is the perfect performance task that you can use to assess your students' knowledge, while letting them be creative and have fun learning.
Students have to create a map to go along with their made-up town (if you choose, you can have them do their hometown instead). The students have to add streets, restaurants, and stores based on the criteria set on their instructions (each level having varied criteria). All of the criteria has to do with different geometric terms.
Along with the criteria/instruction page, there is a page where they will put their information, a jot page for planning, and a rubric for each level. I have also included a page where they will write directions to and from certain places on their map. I use this for the early finishers!
My students always enjoy this project and come up with amazing town maps!
Although this was made for a 4th grade class, the different levels make it useful for 3rd or 5th grade as well.
