What is in the activity?

This activity sheet is made up of six exercises. In two of the problems students are given in mapping rule of the form, such as (x, y)→(x−7, y+5) and the position of an original triangle or quadrilateral. Students must follow the mapping and show the image of both figures after they are translated. The next exercise begins with the original and the image of a triangle under a translation. Students must complete the mapping rule that fits that translation. The next exercises involves two translations. The double mapping rule is described and students must perform two consecutive translations on a given triangle. The students must also describe the one translation that will move the original triangle to its final position in one translation rather than two consecutive translations. The last two exercises ask the students to perform a translation that will move the triangle to be completely in another quadrant and then explain their reasoning. These are both open-ended question that have many answers.

A complete set of answers in included.

This would be a great worksheet for after you have taught a lesson on translations and you want to assess if students have understood the concept.

A Spanish translation is also included.
