Lesson 1:
Have students take a large piece of construction paper and fold it into nine pieces. Dicsuss the different geometry terms: point, line, line segment, ray, parallel lines, Intersecting Lines, Perpendicular Lines. Have students cut out either the words with the defination and place on each section then discuss that the illustration will look like with the students. Or for the more advanced students have then write their own definitions.
Lesson 2:
Have students cut out flashcards. Have students write on the back either its definition or its vocabulary word that we discussed yesterday. Give students about 5 minutes to quiz one another with the flashcards. Then have them paste them on their bingo board in a random order. You place a teacher copy in a bag to use to pull out and play bingo, for the vocabulary say the definition of the word and of the pictures just say the name of the picture.
Lesson 3
Go over the song “Geometry Shapes” with the students
Tell the students that today they will only be working with quadrilaterals.
Give students a geome ”tree” this is where they will be creating a quadrilateral family tree. Do this whole group. There is a picture below on what it should look like at the end. (There are papers to cut and paste on to the tree)
Go over with the students the different quadrilaterals and their different angles and lines.
Then have students get out their geoboards and follow the directions to make the correct shape.
Show What You Know.
Lesson 4
Read over song.
Tell students that today they will be going over triangles. Cut out each of the triangles and have students right their definitions on each of the lines provided. Then glue the flap down underneath draw the corresponding triangle. Then play the triangle making game.
Show What You Know.
Lesson 5
Sing area and perimeter song. Talk about how to find perimeter then have students get up and measure the precut shapes to determine the name of the polygon and its perimeter.
Show What You Know.
Lesson 6
Sing the area and perimeter song. Talk about how to find the area. Play Area Blackout game. (directions are on the game board)
