Purpose: The overarching goal of this unit is to teach students about different concepts in geometry.
This fits into the ‘bigger picture’ because it will help all students to know the shapes and angles in the world around them. This lesson is a nice way to end the school year because students will get to connect all the things they’ve learned. Students need to know about this because geometry is relevant to their everyday lives.
Objectives: As a result of this lesson:
• Students will be able to identify polygons based on their properties, including types of interior angles, perpendicular or parallel sides, and congruency.
• Students will be able to identify three-dimensional shapes (e.g. cubes, prisms, spheres, cones, and pyramids) based on their properties, such as edges and faces.
• Students will be able to draw and identify relationships among points, lines, and planes.
