Geometry Vocabulary Cards for Lines and Angles
Geometry is full of vocabulary that students need to understand. After all, how can they classify polygons according to the properties of their lines and angles, as the Common Core expects, if they don’t know the difference between parallel and perpendicular lines, or they don’t know how to recognize acute, right, and obtuse angles?
That’s the idea behind my sets of Geometry Vocabulary Cards. In this set, which features line and angle vocabulary, you will receive cards for 16 key words relating to line and angle vocabulary. Each card has either the word itself, the definition, or a picture, for a total of 48 cards.
point line vertex line segment ray vertical line horizontal line diagonal line parallel lines intersecting lines perpendicular lines right angle acute angle obtuse angle straight angle protractor
The cards can be used in a variety of ways. When students are just learning the words, you might have them work with a partner and just make matching sets of 3. Later on, students can play a Concentration-type game using 2 out of the 3 cards, (for instance the name and picture), to make matches. (Have the players evenly divide the definition cards among them, and if they make a match for one of the definitions they have, it is worth an extra point.) Students can also play a version of “Go Fish” where they ask for cards to go with a particular word.

In addition, I have a set of Geometry Vocabulary Cards for Polygons
that uses the same background designs the Lines and Angles cards. If you combine the sets, you have a comprehensive set of 2-D geometry terms for 4th grade!
