Students will explore geometry terms and concepts and begin to see the correlation between math and art. The unit contains components that can be used in lapbooking, notebooking, or in continuing learning logs.
Math topics include:
geometric figures, line directions, parallel, perpendicular, intersecting, types of angles, quadrilaterals, types of triangles, 2D and 3D shapes, congruent and similar shapes, symmetry, geometrical nets, translations, reflections, and rotations (slide, flip, and turn)
Art topics include:
drawing, sketching, patterns, collage, overlapping, shadowing effects, use of light, lines, shapes, composition
This unit includes:
5 hands on games or activities
5 art assignments
4 geometric nets
1 comparative writing assignment
1 challenging symmetrical assignment for advanced student
One of the art assignments contains the use of shadows that can be correlated to a science unit on shadows and light or as a review.
Artist included in the study are:
We at What We Get Up To hope this unit is a fun and interesting way to look at and explore geometry and art.
