This PowerPoint presentation examines the administration of President Bush. It begins with the 1988 campaign against Michael Dukakis. It then briefly covers the following highlights: Tiananmen Square and America's reaction, the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989, the fall of the Iron Curtain and eventually the Soviet Union, the impact that a decrease in defense spending had on the economy, Operation Desert Shield, and Operation Desert Storm, and the nomination and confirmation hearings of Clarence Thomas. It ends by setting up the 1992 election. This presentation is used in an AP United States history class and is based on parts of Chapter 40 and Chapter 41 of The American Pageant, 14th edition.
