This is a novel study for the book George by Alex Gino.
The novel study is organized by chapter. There is one page for each chapter (which includes 2-4 questions per chapter). It is 16 pages with an additional 14 page answer key.
The questions are aligned with the Common Core reading standards for Key Ideas and Details as well as Craft and Structure. The questions are a mix of within the text questions, where students think about the key events happening in the text, and about and beyond the text questions that are high-level text analysis questions. This novel study will work for 4-7th grade students.
Ways to use this novel study:
1. Book Groups (3-6 students): It can be used as a book club packet where students fill in their ideas as they read, and then they can come together to discuss the text with others reading the same book.
2. Read Aloud: It can be used as a guide for you as you read aloud the book to your students. Pose the questions and discuss.
3. Individual Reading Conference: As you pull up a chair for a quick 3-5 minute conference, you can be prepared no matter which chapter the student is on. Ask the questions that go with that chapter to determine if the student is comprehending the book and using high level thinking, or use the questions to raise the level of thinking the student is doing.
4. Reading Partnerships: Use the guide the same way as with individual reading conferences however the questions can be used for the students to discuss as well.
