OBJECTIVE:
To learn about the national and international events which occurred during the presidency of George W. Bush.

TIME:
1 class period

This lesson begins by reading the introductory paragraphs with the class about the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections won by George W. Bush.

Next, students read about the presidency of George W. Bush. This includes sections entitled:

FIRST ADMINISTRATION: 2001-2005
• Environmental Issues
• Terrorist Attacks and Military Action
• Homeland Security
• The U.S. Economy
• Arms Control
• Election Reform
• War Against Iraq
• Medicare Overhaul

SECOND ADMINISTRATION: 2005-2009
• Commission Report
• Hurricane Katrina
• Supreme Court
• Immigration
• Economy
• Iraq
• Afghanistan
• North Korea
• Iran
• Other International Issues

As they are reading, the kids should underline or highlight the sentences which best summarize Bush's two terms in office.

Once students have finished reading about George W. Bush's first and second administrations, the class is divided into two teams for the playing of the quiz game JEOPARDY..You can put the category headings -- NAMES, PLACES, WORDS AND TERMS, PEOPLE, and ODDS AND ENDS -- and point values (20-50) on the board. Divide the class into two teams and start the game.

SPECIAL NOTE:
Each time my students walk into class and see JEOPARDY categories on the board, they get excited. The competition in these games make social studies class a lot of fun.
