“George Washington” is a Social Studies lesson that focuses on the life of America’s first president. Students read an original, content-rich informational text multiple times during the lesson, each time exploring the details by annotating the text and creating 3D graphic organizers (foldables). Printables include an opportunity to practice challenging words found in the text and a comprehension review. Students conclude the lesson by answering a constructed-response writing prompt about Washington using details to support their answers. Answer keys and a scoring guide are included with the lesson.
Suggestions for how to use the activities in this lesson with an interactive notebook are also included. The 3D graphic organizer will fit within the pages of a standard composition notebook. However, the lesson is designed so that it can also be used without such notebooks.
