Social media is a huge part of society and our students love it! For this reason I have started to utilize it historically in my classroom! This is George Washington's Fakebook (Facebook) page that includes status update of various quotes taken from his life. When I use this page in my classroom I have my students pick a couple of the quotes to journal about explaining why they chose the quote, what does it mean, and how can they apply it to their life.
I also use this in my history class to check student's understanding. I will have them write out what events were going on around the time Washington made this "status update."
I also added pictures of various events from George Washington's life. These two pages will have your students asking a number of questions about Washington and his life. My students are generally the most curious about his teeth!
