George Washington Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- This is a 14 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 45 questions based on a History Channel video (The U.S. Presidents Series on YouTube) and the History.com website.
Students will begin this assignment by watching the U.S. Presidents Series Video: George Washington (on YouTube). The video will introduce the time period and go over the key themes and events of Washington's presidency. The personality and qualities of George Washington are first reviewed. The video then covers many of the precedents which George Washington set as the nations first president. The composition of his first cabinet and the men who served under him is covered as is his role in the Whiskey Rebellion and the design of the nations capitol city. Following the video, students will proceed to the History.com website and read a biographical article about George Washington. His childhood/teenage years, role in the French and Indian War, and Revolutionary War service are all covered in the article. The article gives more details about the election of 1789 and Washington's initial reluctance to assume the presidency. The article then covers the major issues which Washington was faced with during his two terms in office. The article concludes with Washington voluntarily not running for a third term and returning to Mount Vernon as well as his final years.
