Word Search Activity - If your students are like mine, they love these. I use word search puzzles to introduce vocabulary, or even just give it as morning work to go along with a holiday theme or topic we are studying in class. They are also great to use for writing. You could have students practice writing using some of the words from the word search and when they are finished, they get to complete the puzzle. Have them write sentences or a short George Washington themed story or informational writing.Of course you don't have to do the writing part, you could simply use it for the puzzle.
They are also great to glue in writing notebooks for future writing topics. They offer the perfect opportunity to get your kids talking about key vocabulary. They are fun for early finishers. Great for a sub, too. How about homework as a family activity. Use when you doing a lesson on George Washington, the American Revolution, Presidents' Day, or any time. Use this word search however you would like in your classroom.
In this George Washington themed puzzle, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonally. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions. Also, some of the vocabulary is more suitable for 4-5th graders, such as: american Revolution, Continental Congress, and a few more. Keep this in mind when considering it for third grade and below.
