12 extension activities designed to test students' knowledge of the novel, their ability to see events from more than one viewpoint and their ability to write in different styles/formats. This is a bundle of 12 assignments / prompts based on George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. They are HIGH ORDER activities.
Many tasks require students to imagine that they are characters in the novel, and then to write in the voice of that character using an appropriate register and tone. Some writing activities are based on the complete text (review, interview questions).
They are WRITING exercises, so they are also designed to improve student's abilities in different styles of writing. Styles include:
- Diary Entry
- Dialogue (to be acted out afterwards)
- Report (Broadcast or Newspaper)
- Interview Questions
- Creative Writing / Short Stories
All assignments include hints, sub-headings or structure guides to provide a starting point or scaffolding to help students get started.
These writing tasks give students an opportunity to show a deep understanding of the novel, as well as to practice writing in different formats. Many of the activities could be used for summative assessment.
This is a Word document, so you can edit the activities to suit your class.
