I created this project to help the students learn the basics of Georgia's geography during their first quarter of 8th grade. Over a period of about two weeks, the class completes various geography lessons and works on the maps for the atlas as a part of each lesson. The final project includes the following maps: physical, political, climate, historical, regions, and seven wonders. The zip file will include a PDF set of blank GA maps, an atlas project sheet with a rubric for grading, three graphic organizers (physical features, seven wonders, and historical information), and a quiz or assessment for the end of the unit. The two preview files show you the project sheet with a portion of the rubric and a portion of one of the graphic organizers. My county uses the textbook Georgia and the American Experience by Clairmont Press and the page numbers in the documents refer to this text. Our text includes a specific section on the seven wonders; however, you can also access information on these in the New Georgia Encyclopedia (free online). The students also had access to climate maps in their text and I gave each student three small blank maps (reduced with the copier)for each of the three climate maps required for the project. That's all the "tips" I can think of right now, but please send me a message if you have any questions about these materials or how I used them in the classroom. Thank you!
