Based on third grade Georgia Performance Standards, this activity focuses on Georgia's habitats: mountains, swamps, coastal plains, piedmont region, and the coast along the Atlantic Ocean. You'll get 16 task cards which are presented as postcards as a fictional character by the name of Billy reports back to his mother about his adventures throughout Georgia. Once your students have become experts on the regions, they can use context clues presented in Billy's postcards to help Billy's mom decide which of Georgia's regions/habitats Billy was visiting when he wrote the postcard. There is a recording sheet, directions page, and answer key. Also included is a complete teacher anchor chart with information about the description, location and plants/animals of each habitat. There is a blank copy of the same anchor chart that can be given to students to use for note-taking. Finally, there are two suggested writing activities described -- one for writing postcards, and the other for creating a tri-fold brochure.
