"Georgia Map Collages: An Art and Geography Lesson for Elementary Students" is a PowerPoint lesson geared towards 2nd-5th grade students. The PowerPoint is written in plain language for students to follow along step-by-step during the lesson. A template of a Georgia map is included which you can print out onto construction paper for the students to paint and draw on.
There are so many great connections in this lesson to geography, social studies, art, etc.! You can also tie in whatever your students are learning about such as Georgia rivers and landforms or state symbols.
During the lesson the students will learn:
-where Georgia is located in the USA
-where their county and city are located on the map of Georgia
-how many counties are in Georgia
-famous people, places, and things from Georgia
-how to draw a peach, peanut, and glass of Coca-Cola
-how to select symbols about Georgia from travel brochures or magazines for use in their collage
-painting neatly and adding patterns to their collage
The PowerPoint and Georgia map template are in a zip file. Print the map as if you are printing a photo full size onto paper.
**One year my administrator did my annual observation during this lesson. I played "Georgia on My Mind" by Ray Charles while the kids were working on their Georgia Map Collages. She saw all the connections I was making to so many of the things the kids were learning about and she actually CRIED tears of joy because she was so happy!**
