Every unit includes several informational articles with comprehension questions. All units include character studies of important and influential people related to the topic. An excellent way to connect reading and social studies across the curriculum.

All units have 6 vocabulary posters with real-life photos. These make AWESOME bulletin board displays or can be used to introduce the unit. Some teachers use them at the end of the unit to review.
The Georgia Standards of Excellence for 4th Grade for Social Studies: Year 2: Revolution to Reconstruction.
SS4H1: Explain the causes, events, and results of the American Revolution: King George III, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Benedict Arnold, Patrick Henry, John Adams, and Paul Revere.
SS4H2: The Writing of the U.S. Constitution with character studies on James Madison, George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin.
SS4H3: Explain Westward Expansion in America including the War of 1812, Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark Expedition, Oregon Trail, and Gold Rush.
SS4H4: Examine main ideas of the abolitionists and suffrage movements with accomplishments of Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton Sojourner Truth, and Harriet Tubman.
SS4H5: Explain the causes, major events, and consequences of the Civil War. Describe roles of Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulyssess S. Grant, and Jefferson Davis
SS4H6: Analyze effects of Reconstruction on American Life including purpose of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution.
SS4CG3: Describe the structure of government and Bill of Rights.
