Students review the unification of Germany and Italy by completing a graphic organizer, a vocabulary task, and answering 17 questions. In the graphic organizer, they sort 31 terms into "Germany" or "Italy" and there are 11 terms that don't belong in either column. The answer key is included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!
Sample questions include:
--Why was von Bismarck anti-Catholic Church and anti-Socialists? Is that a stance he should have taken, why or why not?
--Was the Zollverein a step towards or away from German unification and why?
--How did William II change Bismarck’s life, and for what reason? What repercussions did that have for Germany?
--Explain what led to the development of secret patriotic societies in Italy.
--Rewrite this quote in your own words, or create an illustration of it, to demonstrate understanding: “ideas grow quickly when watered by the blood of martyrs.” Who is credited with this statement?
--Explain some of the challenges Italy faced in being unified in practice.
