In this unit, students learn about the process of gerrymandering and its impacts on our political system. Included in the file are worksheets, maps, graphs, tables, a presentation to teach about the following topics:
1 - What gerrymandering is and its history.
2 - The different methods of gerrymandering districts.
3 - How gerrymandering is allowed to take place.
4 - Legal challenges to gerrymandering.
5 - Gerrymanderings influence on elections and representation.
Special project sheets and instructions are provided for students to create a presentation about a specific gerrymandered district. There is also a test which can be given at the end of the unit. Please download the preview sheet for more details.
