Get your sight words in gear this year!
A fun and motivational way for students to practice sight word reading fluency.
This “Get your Year in Gear—Sight Word Edition” features Dolch sight word lists: Pre-Primer, Primer, and First Grade. Each list has been broken down in to manageable practice chunks, called “Practice Bots”. Students read and practice their lists, each time they read the list they color a gear. These are perfect to send home for sight word practice.
As students master each robot, you can instruct them to color the corresponding gear on their self-monitoring sheet. (I keep the self-monitoring sheets in a folder and give them to students as I assess them. You can decide how you would like to use them in your class.)
A master copy of each sight word list has been included, and broken into “Practice Bot” sections. These sheets make it super easy to track individual students’ progress with their sight word fluency. I keep these in a big binder, as I assess students—I highlight the words they have mastered. This also makes it easy to indicate particular words that students are still struggling with. Then, you can fine tune students’ practice by writing particular words on the “Dear Family” Practice Bot note to send home.
Also included in this Sight Word Edition, is a student award certificate you can use as students master each sight word list.
