Objective: Students will be able to identify character traits regarding one or more characters in a text, and gather evidence to support their choice.
This resource is excellent for visual learners, and can be used as a pre-reading strategy, post-reading strategy, and in groups.
Use as a Pre-Reading Strategy
Based on the title, images, or background information regarding a character, have students predict how they are viewed by those mentioned in the handout.
Use as a Reading Strategy
After reading a chapter or portion of the text, have students gather evidence from only that section of the text.
Use as an Assessment
Have students include quote evidence that supports their choice. Quotes must be spread out through the text, and not just from one chapter or section.
Use as a Group Activity
Split students up into partners or groups, and assign a "box" from the worksheet. For example, have one group create a visual and gather quotes for how the narrator sees a certain character, and have another group create a visual and gather quotes for how strangers see a certain character.
