This is a first week of school activity designed for high school students. The purpose is for them to give me a writing sample, but also to have pennants from each student that I can string up from my ceiling as a decoration for the whole year...but especially for parent night! I use 11X17 paper and fold it in half. Then cut down from the fold to make a point. I make a few as templates for students to trace if they have to. Then I give free reign for how the thing looks and encourage creativity.
When students turn this in, I have them share their pennant in small groups. Then I ask each person to share one of their things (reading what they wrote) for the whole class. When I hand these up, I use string and take the folded triangles and glue them together over the string. I put 10-15 on a string and then attach it to my ceiling using paper clips or some other hooking device. This stays up all year.
