There are two sets (26 letters) of the QWERTY keyboard, created on one handout. The students are to cut out the top portion and leave those 26 letters at home to practice, then the set on the bottom should be left at school. My goal this year is to have all of my students know where all of their 26 letters are placed on their keyboard. In order for this to occur I have been brainstorming creative ideas - what better way than to make it into a game.
I do encourage you to have each student place their initials on the back of each letter that they cut out, I tend to find a couple of letters left on the ground once class has been dismissed.
I have been thinking of creating a simple table, which would allow the students to keep track of their speed times as they place the keyboard in the correct order, however in the beginning - speed is not the intent.
