Getting Ready to Write – Shapes and Words
In early childhood learning, before attacking the difficult skills of hand writing, the children need plenty of practice to fully develop their fine motor skills.
This Shapes and Words pack contains 25 activity pages. Each page contains a large dotted shape and a dotted word.
The dotted shape extends the fine motor skills practised in the fluency patterns to irregular patterns and introduces the concept of drawing.
The dotted word describes either the name or some aspect of the shape. This activity while providing more fine motor training introduces word recognition. The basic ball and stick structure of these dotted words give the children skills that can be carried over to other forms of writing either print or cursive.
Each activity page has illustrations of correct pencil grip for both left and right hands.
