This product contains five getting-to-know-you activities for the beginning of the school year. Inside, you will find questions and activities for classmate interviews, a class scavenger hunt, student and parent questionnaires, and goal-setting materials. I have also included three pages of detailed teaching notes with ideas about when and how to implement each of the included activities.
Community building is a huge part of the secondary classroom, and these activities can help cultivate a positive culture of inclusivity and active engagement. The community building activities are designed to engage the students in discussion with their peers as they consider concepts such as what makes someone a good friend and how you know you can trust someone.
None of these activities focuses on summer break. Instead, they focus on engaging students in the types of intriguing, thought-provoking, and (sometimes!) silly conversations that are the bedrock of secondary classrooms. In this resource, you will find:
1. A two-page student questionnaire
2. A parent questionnaire
3. A two-page, discussion-based “What do you Think?” activity
4. Three pages of classmate interview materials
5. A game-based class scavenger hunt
6. A two-page goal-setting resource for secondary students
