The beginning of the school year can be nerve wracking, for students and teachers. The goal of this lesson is to begin community building as well as rule following in the classroom.
This lesson allows for the students to introduce themselves to the the class and teacher. (If teacher models this lesson, which I strongly suggest, than this can also become a way for the teacher to introduce her/himself to the class as well.)
This wonderful activity is a great way to introduce/reinforce the notion of a timeline and the significance of sequential events for social studies teachers. However, this activity can surely be used in an ELA class as well.
Teachers can use this activity not only as a way to get to know students but also as a way to:
-practice classroom procedures
-practice classroom rules for respect for others
Common Core ELA standard correlation is included in this lesson.
